    Method

    How it’s read.

    i

    Your day pillar

We count the days from 1 October 1949, a Jia-Zi day, keep the remainder after dividing by 60, and read the stem (10 of them) and branch (12 of them) at that spot. The stem gives your element and yin or yang; the branch gives your animal.

    days since 1949-10-01 mod 60 = day 1..60
    ii

    Today’s role (Ten Gods)

We compare today’s day stem with your own. Their element relation and matching or opposite polarity give one of ten traditional roles. We show each under a kind name, such as The Challenger, never the harsh classical word.

    iii

    Energy phase (12 stages)

Your day stem passes through twelve life stages, from birth to growth to rest, as it meets each branch. We look up your stem on today’s branch and describe that stage as a phase of energy, not a verdict.

    iv

    Element weather

Wood feeds Fire, Fire feeds Earth, Earth feeds Metal, Metal feeds Water, Water feeds Wood. Today’s element meets yours and is one of five things: the same, feeding you, fed by you, shaping you, or shaped by you.

    v

Ally and go gently (branch relations)

Some animals sit in traditional harmony with yours (six-harmony and three-harmony pairs). The animal opposite yours on the twelve-branch circle is the contrast partner. When today’s animal is one of those, we name an ally or ask you to go gently.

    vi

    Small ritual (elements)

From the weather we pick the element your day may lean on, then its colors, its compass direction and one of the twelve two-hour windows (si-jin) tied to it. It is a small gesture, nothing more.

    vii

    Sun sign and life path

The tropical Sun sign comes from standard calendar dates measured from the March equinox. The life path reduces month, day and year to single digits, adds them, and reduces again; 11, 22 and 33 stay as they are. Both sit in “How this was read”.

Readings are reflective prompts, not advice.
